What I specialize at

I do not consider myself to be a Desktop Engineer nor a Server Administrator. What I am good at is imaging, desktop operating systems and making things that should not work, work. Yes, I run several small servers here at home and keep them up, but  do not really like to, in fact I would like to do away with all of it and just have desktops, but that is not possible.

 

My true love in IT is settings up small shops and offices, either SOHO or Corporate and it is what I do for a living. There is just an awesome feeling of accomplishment when you walk away from a project site that has been completely setup and running the way you intended it to.

 

Second would be imaging operating systems and creating applications and programs to make it happen on a small scale. From old BartPE to new WinPE and .wim files we have come a long way. My Bootable GUI WinPE 3.0 is a prime example of what I like to do. ( Link in this site)

 

Being over 50 and not getting started in this field until I was 40 really puts me behind all those young kids that grew up with this stuff. It takes me twice as long to figure stuff out, and I “CRS” most of time, so it has to get wrote down quickly or it is gone! Being a Logistics manager in past careers has taught me a few lessons in organization, so I keep good notes.

 

 

 

What have I done in this field?

 

Charter College Anchorage AK –2006/2007

Set up a modular virtual classroom environment using VMware Workstation 5.0 and VPC 2007. Each semester the Network Administrator decides classes and then Copy and pastes Virtual operating systems onto a “Golden Image” for those computers and then images all of them at once. All shortcuts, start menu items, networks, and Virtual Machines and setup and ready to go when the student logs on for the first time. Applications and Operating systems included; Novell 6.5, Linux Redhat and Fedora, and  all Microsoft operating systems.

Posted and detailed the complete ImageX command line structure and posted it to my website for all to use with all of my tips included.

 

 

Fatfitz.net for Chugach Alaska Corporation use  Anchorage AK—2009

Created a bootable GUI based WinPE 2.0 disk with bat files for all techs to use instead of ImageX command lines in a WinPE disk. ( see link on this site) Now posted on my site.

 

Fatfitz.net for Chugach Alaska Corporation use  Anchorage AK—2010

Created new WinPE 3.0 GUI boot disk  for imaging workstations, including the custom formatting required for Windows 7 and Server 2008. Created a Hardware Agnostic Windows 7 Sysprepped image for Chugach and my partner and I in this field are currently working on a post script install of that image to accompany it.
